Airbus Group Australia Pacific has a strong flight safety and maintenance safety culture. The company has a specialist professional team to comply with both CASA and Airbus Helicopters requirements. The team consists of a Chief Test Pilot, Safety Officers, Operational Members and Administration.
During maintenance of a civil helicopter at any of our bases, maintenance ground runs and/or flight testing might be required. Because the customer’s helicopter is under Airbus Group Australia Pacific’s custody and insurance, we have to ensure that the pilot performing these runs and flights comply with Airbus Group Australia Pacific and Airbus Helicopters requirements. Very often we use the customer’s pilot and we have a process of engaging the pilot under our terms and responsibility. Thus we approve the pilot within our system.
To become such an approved pilot each nominated pilot needs to apply to the Safety Management System for acceptance.
Regular Safety Management System forums are held where approved pilots and new applicants are engaged in safety presentations, human factors training and open discussions.
